Winning Proposal for Heathrow Terminal 6 Design Announced
We are thrilled to announce that Event was a member of the creative team led by Grimshaw Architects for their successful bid to design Heathrow Terminal 6. The competition for this highly prestigious £16 billion project attracted some of the leading architectural practices in the world, resulting in a shortlist that included Grimshaw, Zaha Hadid Architects, HOK and Benoy.
Grimshaw’s winning proposal was recognized for pushing the boundary of what an airport could and should be, and Event is proud to have contributed to the bid’s conceptual approach regarding passenger experience, a key issue for Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye.
Andrew Thomas, Partner at Grimshaw, said that: we believe the expansion of Heathrow is vital to maintain the UK’s place within the global economy and we look forward to developing a design that provides an authentic experience by building upon the airport’s rich history, while also setting a new standard for the future of aviation.
The project is still pending government approval - but with the team ready to go, Heathrow is again showing its readiness to move ahead with, not just a runway, but a truly visionary experience.
