A World Before Oil
Displays and presentations evoke the development of Dubai over the millennia, with particular reference to the monumental changes since 1950. Specially commissioned film depicts traditional song and dance, often with its roots in warfare. Oral histories recall memories of pearl fishing and life in the suq. The romanticism and nostalgia suggested by these testimonies contrasts sharply with the extraordinary economic prosperity of modern times.
The Museum is housed in the Al Fahidi Fort, Dubai’s oldest building, its size increased by a newly developed underground wing.
Conceived primarily as an attraction for tourists, Dubai Museum has proved immensely popular with the local population.
