Storehouse of Community Memories

M-Shed, Bristol

M-Shed in Bristol is an audience-centred museum which engages the city’s communities and visitors in a dynamic environment. The overarching concept A Storehouse of Memories is expressed through an interpretive structure that places the museum at the heart of the city as the repository of its people, past, present and future.

Presentations and displays redefine the concept of a city social history museum. They set up and sustain a dialogue that draws the collections and the history of the city into contemporary debate.

Concept and interpretive approach were developed with the Client and local community representatives.

The team explored stories, audiences, the types of visitor experience people were asking for and how these could be delivered.

An open-ended approach to content extends through to collaborative and participative displays.

‘Thank you to all the staff at Event who have worked very hard on this project to ensure that it met the vision and concept. We have worked together to create something quite unique which has been very well received by the public, which for me is the most important outcome of this project.’
